  1.  Welcome to NCompass!  (version 1.21)
  2.  NCompass for Windows is a complete and versatile desktop
  3.  mapping/navigation package. Use NCompass when traveling around your
  4.  country, your state or city.
  5.  
  6.  Using NCompass, you can:
  7.     * Find roads - Ask for a road, NCompass highlights it for you
  8.     * Type in an Address, NCompass will display it on the map (metro maps only)
  9.     * Track Distances - Click on the map, NCompass calculates distances
  10.     between clicks and totals them for your route length.
  11.     * Display items of interest - NCompass graphically shows you where
  12.     things are on the map. (Cities, Counties, Hospitals, Rivers etc)
  13.     * Update databases - NCompass is fully updatable allowing you complete
  14.     control over how and what you want NCompass to display.
  15.     * Build your own maps - NCompass allows you to build your own maps and data
  16.     from scratch, many options are available.
  17.     * Purchase Maps - The 3CS library contains maps of practically all areas
  18.        of the US. Built from government data, the 3CS Ready-Mades offer a
  19.        inexpensive way to build a highly detailed computerized Atlas.
  20.     * Zoom in, or Zoom out, display all or sections of the map.
  21.     * Create your display, then Paste it to the Clipboard for use in other
  22.        Windows programs.

  24.  Compass combines all the information of a travel map with the graphical
  25.  power of Windows to give you a full featured desktop tool. A few clicks of
  26.  your mouse is all it takes to move around the map and display requested
  27.  information in colorful detail.

  30.  NCompass and wish to continue using it, you must become a registered
  31.  user.

  40.  of NCompass (containing many additional features), a fully illustrated
  41.  manual, plus the ability to order extremely low cost detailed maps and
  42.  databases directly from the 3CS library (see below for pricing structure).
  43.  You'll get information on how to create maps and databases from scratch,
  44.  and how to link your maps together so that double-clicking on a point,
  45.  expands itinto a complete map of its own.
  46.  Additionally, registered users are put on our mailing list so that when
  47.  updates are available, you'll be able to request them (for a minimal cost).

  61.    **Install NCompass from DOS**

  63.  1. Create a sub-directory for NCompass
  64.      Example: C> MD \NCOMPASS
  65.  
  66.  2. Copy the files from the floppy drive to your hard drive
  67.      Example: C> COPY A:*.* C:\NCOMPASS
  68.  
  69.  3. DeCompress the NCompass files by running NC.EXE
  70.      Example: C>\NCOMPASS\NC

  75.  Now install the program into Windows

  77.  6. Start Windows... type WIN

  79.  7. Select the File Menu NEW function
  80.  
  81.  8. Select Program Item and click OK
  82.  
  83.  9. Use the browse option to search for NCompass. The browse option
  84.     is selected from the Program Item properties dialog box.

  86. 10. Find and select the NCOMPASS.EXE file located in the subdirectory
  87.     you created. Once selected, click OK to install.

  89.  Installation is now complete... double click on the NCompass icon to
  90.  start the program.

  99.    NCompass comes with 3 sample maps.
  100.    They are meant too give you an idea of the capabilities of NCompass.

  102.        1. Color United States Map
  103.            - Shows you the painted backdrop capabilities of NCompass.
  104.              Does not contain any roads and only the states
  105.              for databases, but you are free to add your own.
  106.            - This is a scratch made map. Not a 3CS Ready-Made map.
  107.        2. Michigan Map
  108.            - The Michigan map is not a complete 3CS Ready-Made,
  109.              although it does contain some actual data.
  110.            - Contains cities, counties (political boundry) and
  111.              some lakes.
  112.          *note*  Many cities (in the cites database) are listed more
  113.              than once. The database actually zip code centroids.
  114.              Cities with more than one zip code are listed multiple
  115.              times.
  116.        3. Grand Rapids (MI)
  117.            - Grand Rapids is an actual 3CS Ready-Made map.
  118.            - This map really shows off the power of NCompass. The
  119.              Grand Rapids map contains all roads, streets
  120.              and highways. Click on any intersection, and NCompass
  121.              will tell you the street names. Also given are hospitals,
  122.              city parks and a few points of interest.
